Black Unicorn Education

Our founder

In 2019, during a tech policy fellowship in Silicon Valley, Ora Tanner discovered there were a great deal of questionable uses of artificial intelligence (AI) that caused harms, negative impacts, and unintended consequences to vulnerable communities-- and nobody was talking about it. Seeking to bring ethics to the forefront of AI training, she set out on a mission to create systems, frameworks, and instructional innovations that would develop a mindset of "ethical stewardship" within leaders so they could implement AI in ways that help others live well and do well.

Our story

Ora initially started with a laptop, a presentation, and a desire to help leaders in business gain a conceptual understanding about AI beyond just the tools. What was meant to spread awareness and educate people about the social impact of AI grew into a viable business with a brand footprint that has grown across the Tampa Bay region. At first, Black Unicorn's main focus was general AI literacy for leaders. We have since shifted to focus on Ethics-First AI training, leadership development, and action-oriented frameworks to help leaders radically and responsibly steward AI.

Black Unicorn Education currently works with businesses, local governments, and civic organizations to develop executive leaders, employees, and entrepreneurs who strategically lead the way with AI.

Ora has a personal mission to train and develop as many women as possible to take leadership positions in the ethical oversight of AI.

We exist to develop leaders, especially women, who will navigate AI respectfully, radically and responsibly.
